Muslim Youth of Islamic Center of Detroit
MY-ICD strives to develop youth of positive change through continuous and engaging spiritual, recreational, developmental, and impactful service and activism programs.
“At the start of 2016, I had never heard of the youth committee at the Islamic Center of Detroit (ICD). Fast forward a year, and I can say the impact of the youth committee at ICD, or as we call ourself the Muslim Youth of ICD (MY-ICD), is tremendous. Now, the youth committee has given me a welcoming and helpful environment. Before starting at the ICD, I would say my skills were not properly exercised, and that I did not know what I want in terms of the present and future. However, through the MY-ICD, I was able to explore different roles, such as activism roles and program director of a weekly hangout. The MY-ICD has helped me pursue and excel at things I never knew I could, and it has taught me that anything is possible with three things: organization, communication, and timing. In addition, the youth committee at ICD has made it possible for me to reach out to multiple people and to speak at large events, roles that a year ago I did not think I ever could. The impact the MY-ICD has left on my confidence, my successes, and my spirituality is incomparable to any other club or organization I have ever joined.”
“Alhamdulillah, I have started working with MY-ICD from the beginning of youth committee reformation in 2015. I have been in Alabama, Texas and Georgia where I was involved with different non-profitable organizations. From all of the organization’s, ICD is the best. MY-ICD youth committee members are very competent and creative in organizing events. MY-ICD helped me to use my photography skill to spread the message of Islam. MY-ICD is a diverse group where youth can successfully convert their idea into action. In the end of 2016, I presented the idea of guiding career of our youth from their mid school to university and helped them to start professional career in the best way possible. MY-ICD gave me the opportunity to convert my idea into reality in 2017. I really feel blessed working with MY-ICD. May Allah help to continue MY-ICD effort to build the community in such a way that it can serve the humanity. Ameen! “
“When it comes to masjid youth groups, unfortunately, the standard is that they are short-lived, unorganized and cliquey. Before being a member of the MY-ICD, I believed that they were the same. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were very welcoming, innovative and working towards sustainability. Each week there are new ideas about how to engage our youth and strive towards being a better group. It’s quite a humbling and learning experience.”
